This can be just about anything from OS X's firewall, to wrong hostname/ip, etc.
We should find out what the request is, that is hanging. You can do this by installing firefox, and installing the firebug extension.
Activate it by clicking on the bug in the upper right. Go to the net tab, enable it. Then try again.
You'll see all of your requests there. Look for the last one, or the one that has a spinning icon. That's the request that's failing: I'd post that.
