Hello everyone. Where do I begin?
I decided to make a website using WordPress because I heard great things. Trouble was I started with a WordPress.COM account. After a ton of trial and error I realized I had the wrong site and jumped over to WordPress.ORG. I created an account with Dreamhost, followed the instructions on this site's FAQ, changed name servers, the whole nine yards. But when I went to http://example.com/wp-admin/install.php to begin the install, it drew a blank. No site. I retraced my steps, double-checked my config file, deleted and then reuploaded the WP package, nothing. I got so fed up I ended my account with WP.COM, un-registered my domain name, deleted it and all databases from Dreamhost and walked away for about a week while the registrar released my domain back into the world.
A few days ago I went to Dreamhost again and registered the same domain through them. http://britdelillo.com. (I know I could have just transferred the registration but I wanted a completely clean slate.) I went back to the Installing WordPress help page and repeated the process. I had my domain, I created a MySQL database, edited the wp-config file, uploaded the folder via FTP to the ROOT of the site (britdelillo.com/database_stuff_here). Then I crossed my fingers and went to the install page. Nothing. Just a nice "oops! Google can't find your site!" notice.
I am at a loss. I've searched the help documents on both sites and can't find a solution and retraced all my steps. I'm using a Mac 10.6.8, Google Chrome 26.0.1410.65 and also tried it in an older version of Safari.
What could I be doing wrong? Thanks in advance for all your help. I'm somewhat of a novice at this so please don't assume too much in your responses.
