Wigmore on "Importing an existing site to new blog"

I have already set up one WP site and need to set up another one for our other practice. A lot of the content is the same, just name changes, can I import the other site (I've exported it to a local drive) and then just edit what I need to or does that mess with the actual site name settings? Or is it easier to just set up the same theme, widgets, plugins etc and copy and paste the data?
